Muffler and Engine

The all-new engine in the Suzuki GSX-8S is an unique parallel 2-cylinder engine found only in a handful of big bike models, including the GS400 from the 1980s, the GSX250R and V-Strom 250 from the current lineup, and the GS500F (overseas model) with a displacement of more than 401cc. In order to achieve the same pulsation and traction as a 90-degree V-twin, the GSX-8S utilised a 270-degree crankshaft. Although there are several competitors who use similar setup, the GSX-8S's two-axis balancer is its strongest point.

This "Suzuki Cross Balancer" system, which gets rid of annoying vibrations and provides smooth rotation, is the first of its kind in a mass-produced bike. Additionally, the engine length can be reduced front and back by mounting it at a 90-degree angle to the crankshaft. A ride-by-wire system uses electronics to control the throttle. Three patterns are available for output characteristics, and three levels plus off are available for traction control. Standard equipment includes a two-way quick shifter, and the mission is planned with the shifter in mind.

83 PS is the highest output. The GSX-8S is the only 2-axis balancer and is anticipated to receive great ratings for its comfortable and persistent ride, despite losing to the 92 PS of the Hornet. Suzuki has not recently marketed a parallel 2-cylinder engine for large-scale models, as was previously reported. The XE7 with a 2-axis balancer was unveiled in 2015, while a parallel 2-cylinder turbo prototype debuted in 2013. However, they have been experimenting. The design of the GSX-8S "become comparable to these heart sections as a result of pursuing the tasks required for a parallel engine," according to the GSX-8S creators. Their extensive research is clearly seen in this model.

The parallel twin-cylinder Suzuki GSX-8S engine is a brand-new engine that is uncommon in Suzuki's large bikes. It has a 270-degree crankshaft and is designed to produce traction and a pulsing sensation akin to a 90-degree V-twin. The engine has the first mass-produced two-axis balancer in the world, which eliminates unfavourable vibrations and permits smooth spinning. An electrical ride-by-wire system with three output patterns controls the throttle, and the traction control has three phases including an off setting. Standard equipment includes a bi-directional quick shifter, and the transmission was designed with the shifter in mind. The engine has an 83 PS maximum power.

In order to reduce unpleasant vibrations and assure smooth operation, the new engine design has been developed with an emphasis on compactness and lightweightness. With a longer stroke compared to competitors, the bore x stroke measure 84x70mm. Unique two-axis balancer effectively cancels primary and secondary vibrations and adds to engine compactness by being positioned 90 degrees in front of and below the crankshaft. The engine operates smoothly because of the torque it receives from the bottom and the steady rotation it receives from the top. The water temperature is controlled by a thermo valve at the beginning of the cooling circuit, ensuring rapid stabilization of the water temperature. A specific item, as opposed to the V-Storm 800 DE, is the oil cooler.

An irregular explosion interval of 270 to 450 degrees is present in the parallel 2-cylinder with 270 degree phase crank. The V-Strom 250 and GSX250R parallel twins have a 180 degree crank.
The explosion interval is equivalent to a 90-degree V-twin, so the characteristic is that the pulsation feeling with a raised tsubu and the direct feeling of kicking the road surface can be obtained as seen on the surface.

*The word "tsubu" in a motorcycle context is likely a reference to the Suzuki Tsubu (Japanese for "grain") model, which is a small-displacement scooter from Suzuki Motor Corporation.

Suzuki Clutch Assist System
The GSX-8S has been fitted with the Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS), which makes using the clutch lighter and has a slipper function that enables smoother engine braking.

Air Cleaner Box
Through computer CAE analysis, the design of the intake pipe and the 6L air cleaner box are optimised. It is situated under the seat and helps to generate a lot of torque.

Muffler
The central pipe of the 2-in-1 stainless steel exhaust has a two-stage catalyst incorporated into it. The short muffler is a purposeful design with a light, nimble appearance.

Electronic Control System.
The Suzuki GSX-8S has an integrated control system called the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System. The system has a cell with a one-push system for starting it and a low-RPM assist feature.
From mode 1 with moderate involvement to mode 3 with severe intervention, the traction control has three levels plus off, allowing for some spin. It can also be disabled.
Power Mode is undoubtedly available. Three sorts of output characteristics are available: A (Active), B (Basic), and C. (Comfort). The maximum output remains constant.

Turbo without Recoil?
Both a 588cc Recursion and a 700cc XE7, parallel twins with turbochargers, were on display at prior events. The latter had a 2-axis balancing shaft with a 270-degree crankshaft and a comparable configuration, despite the fact that they were not commercially available. Is the new model the North American model?

Lightweight Frame Chassis + Suspension

A straightforward frame complements the machine's small, light-weight heart. The engine is suspended from the top of the steel main frame using a diamond-shaped suspension. Despite being wider than a V-twin, the parallel two-cylinder engine fits within the frame's width and successfully achieves a compact look resembling the SV650. The GSX-8S's seat rail structure has a small, distinctive shape. It is able to reduce width while still acting as a useful and attractive component.

A KYB upside-down fork and Nissin radial mount callipers are included in the suspension. Comparable to the Honda Hornet among domestic 600-700cc naked bikes, it has a luxurious configuration. The front and rear suspensions can withstand a variety of activities, including sports riding, long rides, and tandem riding, and are built for stable damping characteristics for on-road use. Keep in mind that the core frame is exactly the same as its V-Strom 800DE sister. Although each vehicle has a different wheelbase and caster angle, the head pipe is also the same.

According to the designers, they sought to strike a balance between strength for decreasing fatigue even on tough terrain and rigidity for tracing turns as required on the road. With a balance of sporty handling and comfortable riding, they hope to provide a rich and delightful riding experience. Although the pricing and launch in Japan have not been disclosed, they are likely to be eagerly awaited. This publication projects rumored to be available in Malaysia before the V-Strom 800DE in Q2 of 2023!

Suzuki GSX-8S Chassis
Of course, the body is brand-new. The frame can be made to be simple and light when the engine is light. The caster angle is set to 25 degrees, which is 3 degrees more than before, by lifting the engine from the pivot axis. The frame, including the head pipe, is identical to the brother V-Strom 800 DE.

The primary frame is made to be compact and fit inside the engine's width. The rider is firmly supported by the seat rail, which is wide at the back and narrow at the foot position.

The steel tube diamond frame is a shared component with the V-Strom. The aluminium swingarm is a dedicated design with enhanced seat rail and torsional rigidity.

Suspension & Brakes
The Suzuki GSX-8S has an inverted fork with a 130mm stroke, a floating disc with a 310mm diameter, and a 4-pot radial calliper.
The rear shock is a link-type KYB shock with an initial adjustment that has a 7-stage range and can be manually turned with a hook wrench. There is no adjusting system for the front.
Beautiful New Wheels: The wheels are composed of spoked, cast aluminum that is light and thin. The rear brake uses a 1-pot pin-slide caliper and a 240mm disc.

The motorcycle promises to provide a remarkable riding experience with to its cutting-edge technology, strong performance, and stylish style. There is a great deal of anticipation among riders and motorcycle aficionados regarding the rumours of its features, specifications, and price point. It is crucial to remember that these rumours should be treated with caution until the motorcycle is formally introduced as they have not yet been proven. Regardless of whether the reports are accurate or not, it is obvious that Malaysian consumers will be eagerly awaiting the release of the new motorcycle.
